Scotland's Instagrammer community voiced out its concern over the Scottish outdoors in Spring 2017. The community was concerned about the degradation of the popular Scottish nature sites due to littering and over-use by visitors.
The community started brainstorming ideas on what we could do to improve the situation. I took the initiative to make this happen by writing a charter, which many Scotland's Instagrammers have now signed and agreed to promote responsible roaming outdoors, as well as promote the Scottish Outdoor Access Code itself. I also built a website www.roamresponsibly.com with Squarespace and created social media channels for the campaign, all of which I now manage. On social media I feature photos and stories, which have been tagged with our hashtag #RoamResponsibly and raise awareness of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and responsible ways of enjoying the outdoors.
I have had help and support from Scotland's creative Instagram community: a great example of that is the beautiful logo designed for the campaign by graphic designer and an active social media content creator Michael MacDonald.
Connecting with organisations, businesses and the general public is an important way to raise awareness and #RoamResponsibly has the pleasure to partner up with several organisations such as CalMac Ferries, John Muir Trust, An Cridhe, Coll Bunkhouse, Marine Conservation Society, Hidden Scotland and VisitArran.
